100 Facts of Finny -- Part "Dha"!
Somehow, I find that writing 100 totally random facts of Finny is more amusing than MySpace bulletin surveys. I now bring you the second installment, #26-50 facts!
(26) I adore all things Celtic. The Irish, the Scots, the Gaelic... which, incidentally is what "Dha" is. (It means "two". Duh.) From Celtic mythology to Celtic knots to writers with a Celtic heritage (cough,Nora Roberts, cough), I love it all. I even love Celtic music (Celtic Woman or Celtic Thunder, anyone?), the sound of bagpipes, and I even consider the Scottish kilt to be sexy. And the Scottish brogue brings me to my knees like no other...
(27) Accents are a turn on. Not all accents, mind you, but a few choice accents. That includes Scottish (OMG, hott!), Canadian, and Australian. After that, it kind of doesn't matter.
(28) I used to worship Xena. Wow, I never thought I'd admit that to the world, but there it is. I was absolutely consumed with Greek myth, the old Greco-Roman pantheon, and the tv shows Hercules and Xena: Warrior Princess. To my everlasting shame, I was nicknamed "Xena" in junior high because I could actually do the ay-yi-yi-yi-yiiii war cry. Believe it or not. (And don't ever ask me to do it again, kthxbye.) I suppose I ought to confess: I own all six seasons of Xena on DVD... and I'm still in love with Greek myth.
(29) I have never dated a man of Asian descent. Not even a mixed Asian. I don't self-hate, I just don't find myself diggin' them. I think it's because I grew up with a lot of Asian boys and I must've had my fill of crushing on Asian boys.
(30) I have, however, dated men of almost every other descent: Caucasian, European, Jewish, Hispanic, Black men (he didn't like to be called African-American because he "didn't come from Africa". I told him I didn't come from Asia either, but he insisted I simply refer to him as a black man. So, there it is.) Each one of them had a rich culture all their own, and I've learned a lot from every one of them.
(31) I went to private school as a kid. From kindergarten to 8th grade, I attended a local private school. I wore uniforms, went to chapel, and was not a trouble-maker. My worst grade was a "D" for penmanship in the fourth grade. It was so awful, in fact, that my fifth grade teacher used to throw away my homework and not give me credit since she couldn't read it. She said it wasn't her job to decipher my handwriting; it was my job to write legibly. I improved vastly in penmanship that year and now have one of the neatest scripts among my friends.
(32) I was a band nerd... and an all-around nerd. I was an honors & AP student, repeatedly on the Dean's List, and involved in the high school marching and concert bands. I played the clarinet, though never well enough to earn higher than third chair and the ranking of "band captain" (under the Assistant Drum Majors). I have not touched my instrument since I quit band in my senior year.
(33) I was also a "jock" (?) as an avid swimmer. I specialized in butterfly and the IM. I have so many random, funny memories of being on the swim team because everyone was so relaxed and flirtatious. After all, what else do you expect when you have teenagers running around half-naked? My worst memory is when I was disqualified from a race that happened to be one of my best times recorded just because I yanked my goggles down in the middle of the lane instead of waiting until I hit the wall. Lamest. Rule. Ever.
(34) I have never sustained any serious injuries. But I have broken both of my wrists roller skating in the second and third grade, respectively and one at a time. For the record, I've never broken a bone ice skating.
(35) The worst trouble I got into at school was when I forged my mom's signature on a school document.
(36) I have not yet lost a close family member... and am very grateful for it.
(37) The first time I fell in love, I was fifteen. He went on to be the greatest love and the greatest heartache of my life for years.
(38) The first One of the first "celebrity" "celebrities" I ever met was this guy. Back when he did PopStars 2 and Yahoo! Groups was a version of "Facebook Groups", I used to be one of the top fans in the "inner circle" with his family. That was kind of crazy. I don't have any contact with him now, but I used to. Now, it's just kind of surreal when I hear about him.
(39) I used to host a Lord of the Rings watch party yearly. Yes, I realize how much of a nerd that makes me.
(40) I used to be a Junior Lifeguard. I can save your life! But my good Samaritan certification expired, so I guess I can't save your life after all. Sorry.
(41) I used to be terrified of dogs. All dogs, large and small. I am no longer terrified, but very big, very loud, very aggressive dogs continue to alarm me considerably.
(42) I loved N'Sync in high school. I was very anti-Backstreet Boys.
(43) Ryan Gosling is the sexiest actor alive, IMO. I've had a thing for him since he was a super-skinny teen playing Sean (a guy that tried and consistently failed to impress the ladies with his "call me" line) on Breaker High. I still heart him, and have seen every single film he's ever done.
(44) I avoid wearing shoes whenever possible. I heart my flipflops.
(45) I don't drink regular Coke, just Diet.
(46) Feet creep me out. Keep them away from me, please.
(47) I am not much of a drinker. I don't like feeling out of control, and I don't like getting drunk. Most of the time, drinking makes me sleepy. However, there are certain situations when drinking allows me to relax enough to say things that are on my mind without worrying too much about what I'm saying. It's a good and bad thing, I think.
(48) I'm a sucker for impulse buys. I try not to be attracted to the shiny wrappers and beckoning sales markdowns. It's hard.
(49) I dig live comedy. I never thought I'd like it, but I've recently discovered how hilarious some comedians really are. Among my favorites? KT Tatara.
(50) I enjoy attending plays, musicals, and art shows. I often wish I was more artsy than I really am, and do hope to find inspiration for stories by being in a creative environment. In most cases, creative environments cultivate positive mojo... It's definitely a good place to be. And yes, I realize I've solidified my place in the Nerd Hall of Fame. Wonderful.
Look for the next 25 facts to follow! Hope you were mildly entertained, anyway!

8 cheers and jeers:
My fiance is Irish and all he talks about is being Irish and how amazing he is because he's Irish and all I hear is "blah, blah, blah, I drink a lot, blah, blah, blah, I have a drinking problem." There's just something about those people that makes them think they're far superior to everyone else just because they drink a lot.
you know, i noticed that! every friend of mine that was of irish descent is quite proud of their drinking abilities. haha... but I was always a sucker for the dark haired, bright-blue eyed irish breeds. You know... like Shane O'Brien. hahaha...
Oh Finny, I too am a sucker for accents and all things Irish (and British!)
Strangely enough, I've only ever dated Asian guys (read: Chinese) but that was a while back. I find myself now not really attracted to Asian guys. I'm in the same boat as you, it's not that I self-hate or anything just that in my experience, I haven't been attracted to any of the Chinese guys I've known.
Mixed boys though? Very cute :P Everybody tells me I should marry a Caucasian just so we can have gorgeous mixed babies :P
you know, I liked the British accent for a long while too, but now it holds a lot less sex appeal. I'm not sure why.
And I have to agree - Mixed Boys are SUPER HOT. I didn't include them in that list, but the hapa kids almost always pop out pretty. I don't get it, but whatever. I know you'll have pretty babies. LOL.
It's probably why I fully intend to procreate with a white boy. ahahha... that sounds so wrong. Hahahaaa...
Thank you so much for the kind words!
I am so loving these 100 things lists. I am getting to know the other bloggers better. I am working on my list now.
Ah, accents. Ah, Aussie accents. The school I work at, there are four Aussies on the basketball team (one of the guys is in the Olympics, even). When they come in the library for study hall, I chat with them. One of the guys is the biggest flirt ever. I don't think he actually knows how to talk to a female without flirting. It is cute, though. Totally makes my Monday nights.
And Ryan Gosling is smokin'. He's way better than Ryan Reynolds, but I have to admit to a weird affinity for the Ryan R because I used to watch him when he was the dorky younger brother in the kid soap opera Fifteen (aka Hillside): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBgWdlyt4VA&NR=1 (see the 4:40 mark). I think I had every episode taped. I might still have a couple of those VHS tapes around.
Hmmm... both Ryans, both Canadians, both veterans of cheesy teen shows.
wraparoundcurl - yeah! doooo itttt! 100 lists! haha... and you're welcome for the compliments. :)
sarah - it's hard to resist hot flirts... but they do make your day. and don't you sometimes feel silly for actually looking forward to it?
and totally random fact about ryan reynolds! i didn't know that! something about those canadian boys, eh?
You know, as a hapa, I've never been that attracted to Asian guys, but my brother has only dated Asian girls....I always thought that was interesting.
